Just an in-depth review of Helios and the Dream Arc (original manga version).

------------------------------------------------

On April 1st, the day when Chibiusa is supposed to return to the 30th century, a once in a lifetime solar eclipse occurs. At that moment, Queen Nehellenia is able to escape and begin her infiltration. First she attacks from within the Earth, entering Elysion to corrupt it with her darkness and capture Helios. Although his body remained, Helios's spirit transforms into that of a pegasus with a golden horn and he searches for his "young maiden" who would be able to release the Golden Crystal, the Earth counterpart of the Moon Crystal, the Silver Millennium, and save the planet.

During the solar eclipse he appears before both Usagi and Chibiusa, proclaiming that he has finally found the "young maiden" he had been searching for and beseeching for their aid. Mamoru would also witness this and it will be the first time he experiences a strange pain in his chest. The pegasus isn't the only thing they'll witness—a strange circus tent also descends from the skies, seemingly from the solar eclipse itself, and this circus will land in the city.

Given the crowds, they decide to hold off Chibiusa's send off until the following day. That night, Helios in his Pegasus form would appear in Chibiusa's dream. Saying that she is the young maiden with beautiful dreams, he takes her on a ride on his back, flying high over Tokyo. From there Chibiusa can see the Juuban shopping district covered in darkness. After the flight, Helios gives Chibiusa a bell with which he will be able to lend her his powers and she will be able to summon him anytime she so wished. When prompted, he reveals to Chibiusa that he is Pegasus, Helios, and that he will need her powers to save Elysion—that he needs the Golden Crystal. The dream will fade with him in the cage and a brief vision of Neo Queen Serenity and King Endymion, at which point Chibiusa will awaken.

Chibiusa leaves early to try and return home on her own, but is unable to. Once more Helios will appear before the three just as the Amazoness Quartet, the main minions of the Dead Moon Circus, start their attack through the use of Lemures, dark black creatures that feed off nightmares. Although Usagi and Chibiusa are unable to transform using the previously acquired Holy Grails, they are able to transform on their own power to become Super Sailor Moon and Super Sailor Chibimoon. Problem is, they don't have any weapons. The bell Helios had given Chibiusa starts to glow as his voice beckons her to call him. She does so and with his power he transforms a pair of kaleidoscopes to weapons she and Sailor Moon can use. With their new powers, they are able to defeat the enemy and Helios is able to witness the light he has been searching for. Once again he disappears just as Mamoru falls in pain.

When Chibiusa and Usagi de-transform, they find themselves under PallaPalla's magic and actually reverse forms: Chibiusa now an adult and Usagi a child. While in her adult form, she accidentally summons Helios. Seeing her form, he proclaims that she is indeed the one he had been searching for, but she is quick to clear up the misunderstanding. It's then that he senses the darkness over her and is able to tell that it is Dead Moon's magic, but he is unable to actually explain. He tells her to believe in him and that he believe she is the one he is looking for who can free him:

"You are the holder of beautiful dreams, protected by the light of the moon, you the princess soldier. You are the chosen maiden, the only one who can break the seal that has been cast on the golden crystal..."

With these words he once again fades, only to use a mirror to appear before Mamoru who remains bedridden from the same illness he has been suffering since the solar eclipse. While Mamoru is asleep, he apologize for not being able to protect Elysion nor him, the prince. Again he asks for his help in finding the Golden Crystal before fading away.

Helios would appear again when Chibiusa summons him after aiding Super Sailor Mercury. Believing that she is too weak to be the one he is searching for, she tells him that the young maiden he seeks must actually be Sailor Moon. He repeats what he told Chibiusa earlier, and Mercury mentions Princess Serenity. When Helios asks Sailor Moon if she is Princess Serenity, Chibiusa runs away, her fears that she is not the chosen maiden and could not be the help Helios seeks confirmed.

However, Helios goes after her, appearing through the bell. After listening to her wishes and dreams, he sees everyone looking for her. In the rain as she's crying, he steps closer to her and first begins to gently nuzzle her. This nuzzle from a Pegasus turns into an actual kiss from Helios himself, having transformed back into his human form. He beseeches her to not cry, telling her that Sailor Moon is only able to do what she can because of Chibiusa's strength and support. He tells her that everyone is worried over her and that he will come to see her whenever she wishes. After once again reassuring her that she is surrounded by those who love her, he has to depart for his body is limited in his current form. But he promises her that he will see her again.

Returning back to where his true body lies, he displays his defiance toward Nehellenia before she basically electrocutes him. Suffering from Nehellenia's curse, he is unable to visit Chibiusa and instead must focus on maintaining his strength else Mamoru would suffer more.

When he next appears, he is summoning for Chibiusa and instinctively both she and Usagi know that Mamoru is in danger. When they arrive into his room, Lemures had filled the room, attacking Mamoru as Helios floats above as if trying to protect him. After defeating the Lemures, they discover Helios greatly injured state and the black blood that Mamoru has been coughing and been trying to hide.

It is at this point that Helios must explain to everyone the truth of what is happening. He reveals that he is the High Priest of Elysion, Helios, and informs them what Elysion is, his duty, and how he and Mamoru are linked with Earth and Elysion. It is because of this connection that he can see and reveal the black rose in Mamoru's chest. This same rose in his own chest, and he informs that they are all under the curse that has befallen Elysion. He also makes it clear that what they see is just an illusion and that his real body is trapped in Elysion under his alternate Pegasus form. All of this is Queen Nehellenia's doing and although he tried to protect the earth, his powers were not enough and they were able to invade the planet from within and outside during the solar eclipse.

He informs Sailor Moon that Nehellenia and her forces have yet to realize she is the reincarnation of Princess Serenity or that others of the Silver Millennium have been reincarnated in this time and world. He beseeches her to use the power over the Silver Crystal to defeat them once and for all—however he also tells her that it will not be enough to lift the curse. To do so, she must break the seal on the Golden Crystal. Only with both crystals will they be able to banish the darkness and nightmares that threaten to destroy the world.

Unable to maintain his form and wracked with pain, he disappears. His next act comes when the Sailor Scouts, now all reunited including the Outer Senshi, are facing the Amazoness Quartet. The curse now fully running its course, Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask fall, slow degenerating to children. Helios appears and with his powers manages to bring them both to Elysion. There, the remaining purification powers of the land are enough to halt the curse and return to them to their forms. Mamoru and Usagi are also able to see the extent of Nehellenia's curse, how Elysion has become a dark wasteland of nightmares.

Helios explains the appearance of all the black roses are a sign of the curse and then takes them to the shrine. The two sisters who help attend the shrine, "maenads," are sealed away in crystal, protecting them. He further explains to Mamoru how Elysion was once where the Golden Kingdom's palace once stood and where Mamoru, as Prince Endymion, would go forth to protect Earth. Although they never met, Helios would always pray for the protection of Earth, his wishes connected and aligned to Endymion. He knew everything, including the love between Endymion and Serenity and how they would eventually meet again. Serenity and Endymion both shared a destiny to protect the earth using their crystals, the Silver Crystal and Golden Crystal respectively.

He goes on to also explain how shortly before Nehellenia's attack he had received a vision foretelling that he would need to find the young maiden who would be able to release the seal from the Golden Crystal. The one who gave Helios this message was "Princess Lady Serenity." Convinced that the one spoken of must be Princess Serenity, Helios once again tells Usagi she must break the seal. Not knowing where it is, she thinks and realizes that the crystal may be within Mamoru himself. But before they can really try, Usagi sees the cage where Helios's body lies and runs toward it.

Now alerted of their location, Nehellenia appears to attack. Channeling Elysion's powers, Helios is able to create a protective barrier around Mamoru and Usagi, and once again transports them to the surface. He then concentrates and gives one final prayer to send Elysion's purification powers to the surface so that it could purify the land and aid Sailor Moon and the others in their battle. This will result in the surface turning into crystal. He sends one last message to Mamoru, informing him that this is the most he can do and that it won't last for very long. Although he is glad to finally meet the Prince he has served, his last thought is actually of Chibiusa.

The final battle will take place within Elysion itself. Although Chibi Moon is initially distraught at seeing Helios fading in his cage, she is certain he's not dead as the bell he had given her, Mamoru, Elysion, and the earth are still alive. Although the battle is hard, full of nightmares and flashbacks, everyone is able to gather their powers and channel them to Sailor Moon, allowing her to transform into Eternal Sailor Moon. Tuxedo Mask is also able to release the Golden Crystal from within him, and with everyone's powers combined, Eternal Sailor Moon is able to defeat Nehellenia once and for all.

The curse lifting, the land already begins to purify and Helios returns to his original human form. However, it is not until Chibi Moon runs over and kisses him does he awaken. Seeing her, he sees the image of Princess Lady Serenity and begins to realize that she, in her future form, is the one who had given him the message. After their happy reunion, Helios notices that Chibi Moon also has a crystal, which Diana informs is her own Pink Moon Crystal. While Sailor Moon may have been the one to help break the seal on the Golden Crystal, it was Chibi Moon's crystal who saved Helios—Chibi Moon had indeed been his maiden all along.

Now able to witness Elysion restoring to its true form, he greets Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask. Taking the Golden Crystal, he creates the royal scepter for which it would rest upon. Upon taking it, Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask transform into their true selves—Neo Queen Serenity and King Endymion. Together they use their powers to completely purify Elysion and the earth, casting away Dead Moon's dark shadow.

After Princess Serenity purifies the stones that held the Amazoness Quartet and reveal them as Sailor Scouts who would be Sailor Chibi Moon's future guardians, Helios takes them all back up to the surface. There he would give his farewells, but not before telling Chibiusa that they will meet again and that he will be eagerly awaiting for that day. After that, he returns to Elysion where he would remain to continue his duties by praying for the protection of the Earth.
